An Irish Landscape
Solo Exhibition,Cill Rialaig Arts Centre
This exhibition presents a series of paintings which was started during a stay in the Cill Rialaig Artists Retreat in May 2016. The works were created in response to the landscape and surroundings of Cill Rialaig, and are reliant on the area for their subject matter and interpretation.
The landscape in question is a symbolic rather than a literal one. Central to the work is human response to environment- in this case tradition, myth, and history created and associated with coastal areas of Ireland and the country as a whole.
The works depict a liminal world, in which the every-day and the imagined are given equal value. In doing so, an attempt has been made to explore symbolism is historic and contemporary Irish identity.
